How Personal Freedom is possible

Google provides definition of freedom as "the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint".

We define personal freedom as the state of a person being able to do what is suitable for him or herself or for any other person or organisation because he or she wants to do so and this state involves a person being able to make that choice without constraints or influence from another person.
Memonede of doubleplushuman agrees with this definition and summarizes definition by saying "personal freedom is the freedom from compulsions that you bring upon yourself".

Personal freedom is normally explained from two points of view which make up a complete free person. These views are freedom of mind and financial freedom. And from these two points of view we can be able to understand how it is possible to achieve personal freedom.

Freedom of mind: Our mind controls what we do, what we can achieve and how we respond to different situations. It is our primary duty to free ourselves from mental freedom. We have enslaved ourselves by many things that limit the way we can do what we really want or what is really suitable for ourselves.Bob Marley once said in his famous song - Redemption song "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery," because, None but ourselves can free our minds".

Bob Marley's words came from Marcus Garvey's speech in Nova Scontia where he said: "We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind.."

We have enslaved ourselves by lust, hate, anger, pride, laziness, lack of knowledge, fear, jealous, and selfishness. It is common to hear someone saying “My anger made me do that”, or this way “Only if I had known, I would have done it perfectly, I regret”. You can also hear someone saying “I hate myself”.
We have also seen people making choices they never wanted just because their friends or families wanted so.
Someone’s selfishness does not do well for him or herself rather create fear and enemies from outside.

To achieve freedom of mind we need to understand ourselves better, appreciate who we are, know the powers within ourselves, and know the significance of other people.

It is homework that if we do better, we can see ourselves live happy and better life, making better and desirable choices for ourselves.

At Johnie blog, we post articles that help individuals understand themselves better as they pursue their personal freedom. Keep on visiting this blog as more topics on freedom of mind are on their way.
